After yesterday’s episodes, I declared the remainder of Summer ‘09 as “Go Play Outside!!”. Outside there’s fresh air, sunshine, water and sand – and no boxes of Rice Krispies to dump. Plus I’m back to being a nice shade of golden brown – it’s a win/win. So today was awesome, take a look.

This is one of the first huge hills we must tackle to get to the fun…

Picture 101

These here are my darling daughters aka 60lbs. and a Radio Flyer wagon happily being pulled up huge hill…

Picture 102

It’s very much worth it when you get to the top though…

Picture 111

The top is also where the girls decide they no longer require a pull…

Picture 116

Or Mommy’s boring company…

Picture 124

Oooh! Another massive hill.

Picture 125

They tackle it themselves. My arm and wrist thank them…

Picture 126

A little water park action to cool off…

Picture 129

And hanging to satisfy the monkey in us…

Picture 142

And then we stop at mama’s favourite place to dream. This my friends, is a work/live property just one block away from where I live/don’t work now. That little shop space on the first floor? That’s my business. All I have to do is walk down stairs to get to my office. Preferably this would be Vancouver, but the suburbs must be better in terms of pricing, right?

Picture 100

Then we check out my other favourite place to dream. My live/don’t work town home on the other side of the live/work property…

Picture 097

OMG. There is one for sale!

Picture 098

Let’s go home and check it out on the MLS real estate listings!

$688,000

Huh? Wha?!

SIX HUNDRED AND EIGHTY EIGHT THOUSAND FUCKING DOLLARS?!?!?!

*Dies*

THIS my friends, is suburban living 20 minutes outside of a pre-2010 Olympics Vancouver.

THIS is all kinds of wrongness and craziness.

So I decided to do a little research on what else I could get for my non-existent $688,000.

For a short five minute drive up the hill I could get this 7 year old house…

house 1

Building Type: House
Bedrooms: 7
Bathrooms: 4
Interior Floor Space: 3305 sqft
Storeys: 3
Built in: 2002

For a 1 hour drive even further into the boonies, I can get 2.89 treed acres for $679,900…

house 2

If I drive 2 minutes over to my mom’s swanky neighbourhood I can get a 2 bedroom 1347 sq ft condo with a view for just $699,900…

house 3

This dumpy looking house about 3 minutes from me and in a good, old, influential neighbourhood will cost us around $689,000…

house 4

But it does boast an “ocean view” (see the blue ocean there??)…

house4-1

If I drive 40 minutes into the sticks/cow fields where I was born I can get a “REMODELLERS DREAM: Solid home with unusual floor plan needs practical touch. 2.25 spectacular acres of park like paradise”…

house 5

And a blue sink and weird looking bathtub…

house 5-2

Now, if I decide to live in my coveted Whistler Village where many of the 2010 snow sports will be held, my $688,000 will buy me a 985 sq ft townhouse…

house 6

And finally, if I just decide to say “Fuck it! Lets move straight back to action and excitement of Vancouver!” my $688,000 will get me a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 1068 sq ft condo just 12 blocks from the beach…

house 7

house 6-1

house 6-3

I don’t even know what to say right now except that the recession sure ain’t hitting the Vancouver/Lower Mainland real estate market hard!

So I’ll ask you. What can you get for your non-existent $688,000? And if you don’t know you can just say, “Holy shit, you will never own property, woman!” like I just did.

holy shit! Tony always told me Canada was more expensive . . . . now I see :)

    Ummmm, our place is 1800 sq. feet and was . . . . . . 1/4 of the cost.

We’re in the burbs though. It’s all about location I suppose.

    wow.

$600K – oh the dreams I could dream…..Actually, I could have a fairly large mansion where I currently live, but put me a good 30 minutes down the road one way and I’d only get a tiny condo, put me 30 minutes the other direction and I’d have acres upon acres of land. Still…I like my house and if I had $600K – I’d just add in a pool and have the inside remodeled…yep, I’m easy. :)

  3. The view from the top of that hill is amazing! My favorite is the new, never lived in condo. Outrageously priced, but absolutely gorgeous!

  4. your first pick is across the street from my place. and it’s the building my mom sells. they are REALLY nice places. bosa builds good ones.
you should see the common rooms… there’s a theatre with rows of lazy boys… a sweet social room with a full bar/kitchen. and the gym is massive. it’s pretty drool worthy.
we looked at moving in there… obviously not in a townhouse (way out of our price range) but in the tower… they were around $300k for a one bedroom & den. so, not ridiculous… they’ve come down in price a lot in the last year. when we first looked they were over $400k

  5. Holy hell that’s expensive! Some beautiful properties if you should hit the lottery or something though! ;-)

LOVED the pics of the girls!

  6. I would save that money for college- but I am a 16- year- old American. Or maybe I would use it to travel Europe. Or buy a bunch of CDs. Or books. Probably books first. Then CDs, then Clothes, then travel/college.

  7. I didn’t know Canada was so expensive! Over here in the Chicago burbs that’d get you a house that’s over 3500 sf that might be a short sale or foreclosure. Maybe 5 bedrooms 3 or 4 baths. Hopefully on at least 1/2 of an acre. It’ll be McMansion-ish, like most houses here.

DH has his eyes on a house that’s been listed for ages at about 900 grand. (http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/13524-W-167-Street_Homer-Glen_IL_60491_1105339922 ) He tends to set his sights a bit high at times. I could live there, but would rather have some rambling Victorian or something like that.

    • That is so beautiful it makes me want to cry!! Totally breathtaking.

    • Wilma,

Oh my goodness… that house is seriously the MOST INCREDIBLE house… Wow… I’ve seen a lot of “dream” houses, but this one has EVERY feature… wow.

  8. I forgot to add that I just love those pics of your girls holding hands together. Does that melt your heart every time?

  9. ha, Coral plays that game all the time. your coin will go further in Victoria. Our little 2 bed 2 bath 900 and some odd square footer is under $300,000.

  10. Fantasy house-hunting is fun, isn’t it? A girl can dream…
