Hey Jen, long time, no hear from me. Still reading, promise. Life’s been sucky lately though. This post prompted me to comment.

My 7 year old step-daughter believes she can take down a grown man and can navigate her way through the woods, all on her lonesome (she actually did the woods thing and bragged about the grown man thing). This is a gift from her mom, who’s taught her kiddie self-defense. She thinks she’s invincible.

It freaks me out. And puts me in a very difficult predicament.

A kid having self-confidence is wonderful. However, what if it makes them unsafe? What if in trying to moderate that confidence with reality, you step on the Mom’s toes? What if the Mom’s belief is the kid’s self-confidence above and beyond anything else, including reality?

It’s a toughie. Maybe I should tell her mom to watch Taken. Maybe then she’ll see reason.

Thanks for the thought provoking post. And the validation that my gut is correct. Sorry for the rant.

ha, that movie was so retarded (in a good way, but retarded).

what was the body count? a 100? The movie slays cuz Liam destroys bad guys… but not too many Western Girls are kidnapped for sex slavery and not found. If suburban white girls stepped off airplanes and went missing in Paris, it would be a BIG deal.

That said, I wanna learn some serious martial arts!

Yes, it was and I – I wanted to lock them in their rooms until they were grown or I was old and senile and couldn’t remember anymore. I guess I still have a few years to figure out how to get over my fear and let my girls live and expand their wings, otherwise, momma’s going to get to party like she 18 when she 45!
