Does anyone else not care as much as I do that Twilight came out on DVD? Does anyone else feel like they can’t escape the hype? Like your head will explode if you see or hear the word Twilight again? Has anyone else not read the books, nor have any intention to? Same with seeing the movies? Did anyone else from Vancouver have no idea the “cast” was/is here – whomever the f*ck that consists of? Will there be a witch hunt if I exclaim, “Die stupid vampires, die”?

I hate vampires, now more than ever. Anyway.

What I love? Hockey Night in Canada.

Yup, that’s right. A Saturday night tradition pretty much before I can remember and has now carried through to our little girls. I’m sure my man and little missys will be suited up in their jerseys and the girls will have their hockey sticks and scrimmage. We caught their first one last weekend and it was way too cute for words. We were proud, proud hockey parents.

Speaking of which, mine and Colin’s most favourite commercial of the moment …

And why the f*ck is Bud Light the official beer of the NHL? I cry.

WEAK. Budweiser should really be banned from associating it’s name with hockey, period.

Personally, I find this equally or more disturbing as my (and uhh, Sandra Bullock’s) West Coast Chopper hottie, Jesse James, starring in Celebrity Apprentice. *Sigh*

Just. Plain. Wrong.

Hmm, what else is new?

Oh yeah, Colin and I started a new tradition called Friday Movie Night. It’s a family thing with a new movie, all theatre style. It’s so fun and the girls love it. Last night we watch Beverly Hills Chihuahua (note: the movies are the girls choice). It was as bad as it sounds. Don’t buy it like we did. It’s going to take many, many years before that one pays for itself.

Last weekend was Wall-E. Wow, I was so hyped and prepped to bawl my heart out at this movie and I found it to be cute, but meh! Didn’t cry. I guess I’ve become more of a hardened bitch than originally thought. I actually fell asleep during it the first time, heh, I suck at watching movies. Oh well, at least that’s a good one for the collection.

Another cool thing about Friday Movie Night is that the munchkins stay up until about 10pm, sometimes later depending on what time Daddy gets home from work and do you know what that equals??

The ENTIRE family sleeping in till like, 10am. Unheard of before FMN.

Other stuff:

  • Taking an internet break has been one of the best and freeing things I’ve ever done in my entire life. These updates are kind of pleasant to do. I haven’t read a blog/Twitter’d, hell, I haven’t opened my laptop in what feels like a long-ass time. I don’t feel like such an addict to the internet anymore – yeah, I think I had a few slight addiction problems. Novel, I know. I’m starting to really regret wasting so much of my life over the past two years online, it’s sad. No wonder everyone was so disappointed – it all makes sense now. But I’m breathing and living again and it’s fabulous.
  • The girls and I are getting much better. Callie is the only one still in somewhat of a sick misery, but she’s slowly coming out of it.
  • It’s sunny, woot!
  • I’m still quit smoking. Yeah me. It’s been over a week now, so I’m on a roll. Last night I was close to sparking one with a glass of wine and I decided on gum instead. Mmmmm, wine and gum. It’s all just mental at this point.
  • Today I begin therapy. I’ve recently been made aware that it’s no longer a choice, rather “critical” for my mental wellness and while at first I was in a bit of denial, I’m pretty excited (and nervous) to start working on getting better. I very much appreciate the eye-opening, tough love I received as well as the love and support I’m getting from Colin and the fam. Thanks all.

Now, I’m off to fold laundry for the next four hours. It sure does pile up when you’re sick for two weeks.

Oh yeah, and for tonight.

Lots of win vibes to the Canucks and Senators (as if they need them but still). And to the NHL, you will not catch me nor anyone I associate with drinking Bud Light with our hockey (or ever for that matter). Just sayin’.

  1. Happy for you, Huck. :)

  2. Ok, no comment about Twilight (guilty is written all over that isn’t it?)
I watched the commercial and loved the part about the sippy cups for beer! The family Friday movie night is a great idea and one I used to have until my daughters got old enough, as in Teens, and decided they preferred Friday nights with the friends over boring old me.
Well done on the smoking and I wish you the best. And lastly, I hope you find solutions to whatever has taken you to therapy. I’m glad you have the support of your family, thats important.

    Rebecca, never drinks bud light

  3. Then ONLY vampire books I’ve EVER read that I would recommend are “Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story” and “You Suck!” both by Christopher Moore. Freakin’ hilarious.

Sounds like life is treating you fine! That’s really good to hear.

  4. Oh, twilight. lol.

FMN sounds wicked, my only concern is that its happening during Friday Night Lights, and THAT is a travesty. :P

  5. Happy Huck, love it
    xx

  6. Not smoking AND going to therapy? I’m super-duper proud of you!

..and when Twilight counts as good literature, all I can say is FML.

  7. I wasn’t into the whole Twilight thing for the longest time, and I just caved last week. I read the entire first book in 48 hours. Then I watched an online feed of the movie. Then I read the unpublished draft of Midnight Sun on the author’s website. And now I’m half way through New Moon. This has all happened within a 5 day span.
I think there must be crack laced within those pages, because I just can’t get enough.

I cried my eyes out at Wall-E. It was a bit pathetic, to be honest. LOL.

Best wishes on the quitting! :)

  8. I’m glad that you’re going to give therapy a try. I hope that you immediately click with your therapist, as I did. I’ve found it enormously helpful.

  9. Hey there! Playin’ a little catch up, bloggy-style while on a conference call at work. (SHHH! Don’t tell!)

Been thinking about taking a bloggy break myself – too much going on and was just told this morning my Fridays off are being rescinded. BAH!

Hope you continue to feel well – we have movie nights, too!

  10. 10 morningaftershow

yay! the internet is so much more fun when its fun! and you blog about beer commercials instead of trauma :-) The last few nights around the baker homestead have been late ones for Mads so I too have been getting to sleep till 9AM. So happy too!

Hope you pick a winner next friday night (do you watch before or after Friday night lights?)… please tell me you’re not giving up on Coach Taylor, you know he’d never give up on you!

  11. 11 amy

Family movie night is one of our favorite things!! Such an important part of our life to keep us connected. Even though Dad has to suffer through Disney princess cartoons ;-)

  12. You are so right. The internet is such a time sucker and very addictive. I’m going to log off and read a book!

  13. OK – I haven’t even read the rest of your post, but as soon as I say the title, the only think I could think of was Don Cherry and those ridiculous outfits he wears – lol! Yep, my hubby watches . . . . so I get sucked in too :)

alright . . . back toreding the rest of your post.

Oh, and the Twilight movie – doesn’t hold a candle to the book. But I do now have the same car as Edward and I L.O.V.E. it! (yeak, I know – freak.)

  14. ok – just finished reading. In our house, we refer to Bud Light as Weasel Piss. Only the finest heavy, dark beers in the Barone house. We’re going to the Hawks game tomorrow – so glad my hottie Patrick Sharp is back from his injury!

I wish you well with therapy – sounds like you have a very good support system around. I’m really happy to read that.

  15. I must live under a rock. I know nothing of Twilight.

Movie night sounds like a wonderful tradition. Perhaps when the endless birthday parties around here start drying up, we’ll have time in our weekend for non-chore, non-party family activities.

Yay for taking family (non-blog) time.
